Dr Catherine Green’s clinical practice focuses largely on the management of glaucoma and cataracts, but she accepts referrals for all eye conditions. In addition to her private practice at Lansdowne Eye Clinic, she is the Head of the Glaucoma Unit at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH).
Dr Green completed her undergraduate medical training in Cape Town, South Africa, and moved to Australia in 1992. After a couple of years in General Practice in Hobart, she undertook her ophthalmology training at the RVEEH in Melbourne, followed by a Glaucoma Fellowship at the Western Eye Hospital, London in 2001. She worked as a consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Central Middlesex Hospital in 2002, before returning to Melbourne.
Whilst clinical practice is her main priority, Dr Green is also extensively involved in the activities of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO), currently serving as an elected Board Director, Chair of the Ophthalmic Sciences Board of Examiners and a member of the International Ophthalmology Steering Committee. She has served as a Director of the Board of the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) since 2010.
Dr Green’s other professional interests include ophthalmic education and leadership, medico-legal aspects of medicine, quality and safety in health care and ophthalmology in developing countries. She has worked as a volunteer in Nepal, Myanmar, Timor Leste and most recently in Fiji, where she serves as a member of the visiting teaching faculty at the Pacific Eye Institute. In addition, Dr Green serves as Program Director for the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Leadership Development Program and is a member of several other international education committees for the International Council of Ophthalmology and the APAO.
